Glossary
Here is a collection of common terms you may have seen around our website, we have used a dictionary, books and journals to come up with definitions we think are easy to understand.
- Stock Image
- An image that is available to be used for commercial or non-commercial projects such as website design, advertising flyers or video. The photographer has ownership of the image and the downloader has limited usage (set out in a license or terms of service.
- Free Stock Image
- An image that is available for free to be used on projects such as web design or ad flyers. They are provided by photographers who retain ownership but allow limited usage under a license or terms of service.
- Royalties
- Payment to a licensee based on usage by the licensor.
- License
- To be given permission/approval to use something which without the permission would be illegal.
- Photography
- The process of producing images using a camera and an object or area.
- Web Hosting
- Data storage service which makes a website viewable on the world wide web.
- Affiliate
- When an individual or company agrees to promote another company in return for compensation based on results.
- Blog
- Short for ‘weblog’, much like a diary viewable on the internet.
- Web Design
- The look, feel and arrangement of a website.
- Webmaster
- A person who manages a website, they are the master.
